PILLOWCASE WITH PRE-GATHERED RUFFLE

PILLOWCASESThis pillowcase is made with a pre-gathered eyelet ruffle and is so easy to sew.

Pillowcase sizes:

Standard:   21″ x 32″

Queen:       21″ x 34″

King:         21″ x 36″

We are sewing a standard size pillowcase.  To make yours in one of the other sizes simply add to the pillowcase length 2″ for Queen or 4″ for King.

MATERIALS FOR ONE PILLOWCASE:

1 YARD FABRIC

1 1/4 YARDS 4″ WIDE GATHERED EYELET TRIM

APPROXIMATELY 9″ RIBBON; SATIN OR GROSGRAIN 1/4″ OR 3/8″ WIDE

Pre-shrink the fabric and trim.

Cut 2 pieces 22″ wide x 32″

Cut 2 pieces of 4″ wide pre-gathered eyelet trim 22″

With wrong sides facing, pin the trim to the end of the pillowcase, keeping the pillowcase fabric slightly below the top edge of the trim’s binding.

Using the same stitch length as on the trim, sew directly onto the trim’s stitching.

Press the seam upward toward the pillowcase.

Top-stitch close to the fold-edge of the trim’s binding.  This will enclose the seam allowance and hide it behind the trim’s binding.

With wrong sides facing, sew 1/4″ down the long edge of the pillowcase.  Repeat on the opposite side.

Press the seams.  Turn inside out, and press the seams.

Sew 3/8″ from the fold, down the long sides of the pillowcase creating a French Seam.

Press.

Turn Right Side out.

Make another French Seam across the top end of the pillowcase.

Sewing 1/4″ from the edge.  Press.  Turn Inside Out, press, sew 3/8″ inch from the fold.

Turn the pillowcase Right Side Out, Press.

To add a little bow, find the center of the case at the trim’s binding.  Cut a piece of ribbon, 1/4″ – 3/8″ wide, long enough to make a bow (about 8 inches).  Fold the ribbon in half to find it’s center and sew a couple of stitches using a needle and thread, to secure it.  Tie the bow.

Congratulations!  Your first pillowcase is complete!
